Watching a Movie a Day: How It’s Going So Far
At the end of 2025, my Twitter feed (I will never call it “X,” because…ew) was filled with everyone posting their yearly Letterboxd reviews. Some of them were honestly incredible. I had watched and logged a lot of movies myself, but somehow, I still felt a little disappointed that I hadn’t watched more.
So, I decided to do something about it.
My plan for 2026 was simple: watch one movie a day. That
meant 365 movies by the end of the year. No excuses, just consistently watching
movies whenever I had the time.
As I got started, though, I realized the “one movie a day”
mindset might not be the most practical way to approach it. Some days I’m busy
and can’t watch anything, while other days I can sink into the couch and knock
out two or three movies in a row. So, the goal has shifted slightly from one
per day to simply making sure I reach 365 by the end of the year.
So far, it’s been working. Although I’ve had one major
distraction: rediscovering old television shows that have eaten up a lot of my
free time.
As of March 10th, I’ve watched 56 films, and it’s the 69th
day of the year. Yes, that means I’m a little behind. But I’m planning to spend
the next week catching up, and honestly, I’m excited to dive back into it.
One of the best parts of this challenge has been tackling my
Letterboxd watchlist. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably added so many
movies to your watchlist that it’s become overwhelming. This challenge has
forced me to finally watch movies I’ve been meaning to see for years or revisit
ones I’ve been dying to rewatch.
By the end of the year, my hope is that I’ll have cleared
out most of that watchlist and can start 2027 fresh…hopefully without
immediately filling it up again.
Since we’re roughly a quarter of the way through the year,
I’m planning to check in every few months and update how the challenge is
going. It’ll be interesting to see not only how the numbers change, but also
whether my optimism about this whole idea holds up.
We’ll see how it goes.
